These meetings focus on practicing samba and other Brazilian rhythms, styles, and percussion traditions, especially with the goal of performing within the community.

Advanced Samba Drumming
Like Thursday night classes but more material. These sessions require greater aptitude and commitment. Monday nights @ Vessel, 8pm. By invitation and special request.

Drum Playshops w/ Jim Greiner
Jim hosts ongoing drum playshops. Third Friday 7 to 8:30pm. Congregational Church of Soquel, 4951 Soquel Dr., Soquel, CA 95073, in Soquel Village. Doors open at 6:30. $10.

Located at Tannery Arts Center live/work studio. These are Intimate sessions of 3-6 students. Light-playing and deep conversations develop skills & knowledge base.

CLASS APPROACH
We'll emphasize Brazilian percussion ensemble styles, for example:
  • Samba Afro
  • Samba Batucada
  • Samba Reggae

​Each style will use a combination of the following instruments:
In addition to each styles basic parts, the arrangement can be broadened to feature various compositional elements: 
  • Introductory Sections
  • Breaks
  • Solos
  • Call-in (to begin)
  • Call-out (to stop)
  • Layering of Grooves
  • Contrasting Grooves / Sections
  • Part Variation​

Finally, we can utilize these materials for performance goals:
  • Construct instrumental samba shows
  • Accompany singers perform popular songs (see below)
  • Collaborate w/ local musicians
