CLASS DESCRIPTION

Personal instruments, drumsticks, and earplugs are encouraged for all classes but not required (new sticks are available for purchase). All levels welcome.

BRAZILIAN PERCUSSION w/ JORGE ALABE

Jorge Alabe, master Ogan in the Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomble, hosts regular classes-- in person or via Zoom. Take an opportunity to learn from the source! 

Orixa Dance Technical Class
This series focuses details of the dance movements for each Orixa, movement by movement, and how the combination of feet and body work together, connected with specific drum rhythms. The class if for people interested in learning how Orixa dance movement works in the Candomble tradition as practiced in Brazil.​

Rhythms of Candomble
These series cover the full range of drum rhythms from this tradition as played on atabaques or conga drums, drawing from Jorge Alabe's deep experience, skill, and authority in this beautiful percussion tradition.

Pagode Percussion Class Series
The class covers drum technique and style for all the typical pagode instruments (including pandeiro, tantan, surdo, repique de mao, reco-reco, caixa, tamborim, agogo); 1–2 songs will be introduced each week.

Bateria class series
Rio-style samba drum technique and ensemble playing. New people with some playing experience are welcome as well as ongoing class members. Plan to bring your own instruments--surdo, caixa, repinique, tamborim, agogo, chocalho.
